Preventing car accidents around school buses

Every morning and afternoon, there are many buses on Louisiana roads taking young children back and forth to school. Drivers are responsible for knowing how to drive safely around these vehicles, including stopping when the lights are on and the stop signs are out. However, distracted driving has led to an increase in unsafe driving around buses, increasing the chance of car accidents.

The woman appears to have been a passenger in a vehicle involved in a single-car crash. A three-vehicle crash in Ouachita Parish has resulted in one fatality, according to state police. Louisiana authorities have confirmed the death of a 69-year-old man, who was killed in the morning crash. Car accidents of this type can be caused by a variety of factors, and police have not ruled anything out at this time, though they have mentioned they do not believe intoxication was a factor.

A Basile resident was killed on New Year's Day in Evangeline Parish, according to state police. Louisiana State Troopers responded around 10 p.m. the evening of Jan. 1 to investigate a two-vehicle crash involving a car and a moped. Car accidents of any type can require considerable investigation, and while impairment is not considered a potential cause in this crash, the investigation remains underway as of this report.

A two-car accident has claimed the life of one man and hospitalized two more, according to local sources. Louisiana State Police have confirmed the tragedy happened on Interstate 10 on the morning of Dec. 21. As with many car accidents, this crash is still under investigation, and blood samples have been collected from all drivers to determine whether intoxication was a factor in the accident.

A man who suffered injuries in a late November crash has died, according to reports from Lake Charles. Louisiana officials have charged the driver involved in the single-car accident with improper passing, but so far no more serious charges have been filed against her.
