How can in-car cameras help prevent car accidents?

On Behalf of | Aug 12, 2019 | Car Accidents |

Motor vehicle accidents happen for many reasons, and unfortunately, many of them are preventable and the result of human error. Manufacturers recognize that drivers can benefit from certain types of tools, and many newer vehicles are coming with features that could make the roads safer and reduce the chance of car accidents. One of the particularly useful in-car features is the inclusion of back-up cameras.

Louisiana drivers have several blind spots, especially when driving in reverse. Whether it’s backing out of a driveway or getting out of a parking lot, drivers must be cautious and careful, but even the most attentive of drivers cannot see everything that’s behind them. This is why cameras can be so beneficial. There are many more back-up accidents than people realize, with statistics indicating that as many as 50 of these incidents happen every week.

New regulations went into place last year that indicate that new vehicles that weigh more than 10,000 pounds have to come standard with a back-up camera. Some vehicles also have features that automatically engage the brakes when there is something crossing too closely behind the vehicle. Regardless of what features a vehicle has, a Louisiana driver is still responsible for the choices he or she makes behind the wheel.

When reckless or negligent driving causes car accidents, it is possible for victims to pursue legal options. A civil claim may allow an injured individual to seek recompense and get what is necessary for recovery. After a back-up accident or any type of collision, it may be helpful for a person to seek a complete assessment of his or her case.
