Lowering the number of distraction-related car accidents

Louisiana drivers are aware of how dangerous distracted driving is and how it is a growing safety concern in the state and across the country. Despite being aware of the risks involved with picking up the phone or engaging in other types of dangerous behaviors behind the wheel, people still drive while distracted. Distraction is one of the leading causes of car accidents, often resulting in serious injuries, extensive damage to personal property and fatalities.

A recent poll asked drivers about their own driving habits and what they believed was the most dangerous hazard on the road. A majority said they believed distraction to be the biggest threat, yet a high number also said they text at stoplights, talk on the phone while driving and do other risky things. There are many things that can cause a driver to lose focus on the road, but phones continue to be the main source of distraction.

April is a month dedicated to bringing awareness to the dangers of distracted driving. Some of the ways drivers can reduce the chance of an accident and practice safe driving include pulling over when sending a text, staying off social media while driving and avoiding eating or drinking behind the wheel. Every driver is responsible for his or her actions behind the wheel.

After distraction-related car accidents, Louisiana victims do not have to walk through the aftermath alone. A complete evaluation of the individual case can reveal what legal options may be available, including filing a personal injury claim. It is possible to hold liable parties accountable for their actions that caused another person harm.
