More DUI car accidents in July than in other months

July is a busy month for traveling, gatherings with friends and other types of celebrations. For this reason, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration notes that there are more car accidents related to drunk driving in July that in other months of the year. Louisiana drivers will want to be extra vigilant and cautious when driving to work, around town or on vacation this summer.

The Fourth of July holiday is one of the most popular holidays celebrated by Americans. The days leading up to this national holiday and for days after, people celebrate by taking time off work, having parties, hosting barbecues and drinking. There is a sharp increase in the number of drunk driving incidents around this holiday. July is also a busy month for travel, and busier roads and more drunk drivers can be a deadly combination.

According to the NHTSA, in 2017, 40% of all traffic fatalities caused by drunk drivers happened during the week of the Fourth of July. Throughout the entire year, there were over 10,000 alcohol-related fatalities, which amounts to approximately one fatality every 48 minutes. The statistics clearly point to the fact that drunk driving remains a serious safety concern for all Louisiana motorists.

When drunk drivers cause car accidents that leave others with injuries and other types of damage, they are responsible for the suffering they inflict on others. Victims may be able to claim restitution for their losses and accident-related needs through a personal injury claim. Through legal recourse, it is possible to hold negligent parties financially accountable and fight for what is necessary for a full and fair recovery.
