Car accidents: Louisiana man dead

On Behalf of | Dec 10, 2018 | Car Accidents |

A man who suffered injuries in a late November crash has died, according to reports from Lake Charles. Louisiana officials have charged the driver involved in the single-car accident with improper passing, but so far no more serious charges have been filed against her. As with many car accidents resulting in a fatality, this incident is still under investigation, and police have not ruled out further charges against the driver.

According to the accident report, a 41-year-old Louisiana woman was traveling on U.S. 90 back on Nov. 30. It appears the woman was attempting to pass a vehicle ahead of her when she lost control of her car. This caused her vehicle to flip several times, ejecting her and her 44-year-old male passenger from the vehicle. She was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries, and her passenger was rushed there with serious injuries. Neither individual appears to have been wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

The specific nature of the passenger’s injuries was not articulated in the report. Sadly, he succumbed to the injuries on the morning of Dec. 6 and was pronounced dead. It is unclear whether the driver has been released from the hospital at this time.

Depending on the outcome of the investigation, the driver may face additional charges for her role in the death of the male passenger. Additionally, and apart from any further criminal charges filed by Louisiana authorities, the man’s next-of-kin are entitled to file a wrongful death lawsuit against her in civil court. Some victims of car accidents, or the families of deceased victims, choose to pursue claims for monetary damages and usually consult with an experienced personal injury attorney to represent their interests in any legal proceedings.
