Car accidents: 2 dead in Louisiana crash

On Behalf of | Dec 5, 2018 | Car Accidents |

A two-vehicle crash has resulted in two fatalities, according to police in Baton Rouge. Louisiana authorities responded to the fatal accident, which closed an intersection for several hours to facilitate the investigation. As with many car accidents, charges may be forthcoming, depending upon the results of this investigation.

According to the report filed by the Baton Rouge Police Department, it appears that a 21-year-old driver of a passenger car somehow lost control of the vehicle, causing it to cross the center line into the path of an oncoming tow truck. The force of the impact killed the 20-year-old passenger riding in the front seat. A 19-year-old male in the back seat was rushed to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead as well.

The driver of the passenger car was also taken to a hospital with injuries described as moderate. The tow truck driver was unhurt. So far, police have not filed charges against the injured driver, but they are continuing to investigate possible contributing factors to the crash. They have not ruled out recklessness, negligence or intoxication at this time.

Car accidents do not always have a clear-cut cause, which is why Louisiana authorities will continue to investigate the details of the crash to determine that cause. This will inform whether they choose to file criminal charges against the driver of the car. Even if no charges are filed, the injured party and the families of the deceased can pursue civil suits for wrongful death and/or personal injury separate from any criminal proceedings.
